Carrot is an important root crop, produced all over in the country. Its roots are boiled and used in salad, pickles and sweets etc. It contains Beta Carotene the pro vitamin A.
 

  Soil

 
It gives good yield in sandy loams. It is a vegetable of the winter but some varieties are resistant to warm climate. 20-25 degree centigrade temperature is favourable for colour, development and roots of carrot.

  Sowing

 

In ground level regions Asian varieties are sown between August and October, while European varieties are sown between October and November. It's sown in small seed beds with 30-45 cm distance between them.

  Irrigation

 

The soil should be wet during sowing. First irrigation should be done when seeds start growing. In the beginning irrigation should be done at the interval of 8-10 days, later at the interval of 12-15 days.

  Digging and Production

 

The roots of carrot should be dug when they developed completely. The soil should be wet during digging. Digging should be done by spade. Carrot should be properly washed before sending to the market.
